ROOF PROFILE OPTIONS | CORRUGATED | STANDING SEAM | VM ZINC | ANTI-CORROSIVE
Zinc roofing sheets are a hugely popular choice for roofing thanks to their proven ability to withstand the rugged Australian climate.
Add in the stunning, elegant appearance of zinc roofing and the wide range of profiles and colours and you know you’re covered by a real winner.
Zinc roof sheets are incredibly versatile.
From traditional styles to eye-catching contemporary or futurist designs, the wide variety of profiles gives you an enormous creative freedom.
Zinc not only protects the steel but gives your roof a sleek, stylish appearance.
And you can really let your imagination go wild with the enormous choice of additional colours and tones in the Colorbond range.
Long lasting zinc metal roofing sheets provide a low maintenance, long-term roofing solution that you can use over a variety of substrates.
Zinc Roofing Profile Options
Zinc roofing sheets are available in a choice of profiles and pan widths including:
- Corrugated—for a new take on the traditional look
- Standing seam– long, clean lines, a range of rib height and pan width sizes—super smart, super elegant
- Snaplock– panel lengths up to 8 metres and suitable for roof pitches as low as 1.5°
- Snapline 45—rib heights up to 45mm with strong clean lines
- Nailstrip—rib heights of 25mm or 38mm
Modern manufacturing processes and technology mean that you can use unbroken panel lengths up to 8 m long whilst still maintaining exceptional strength. Longer panel lengths avoid the necessity of seams where water can enter and also make for faster, cheaper installation.
A wide range of coating materials includes:
- Jarden zinc, Vm zinc, Rhine zinc–0.7mm
- BMT Colourbond/ Zincalume/ Metallic/Ultra –0.55mm
- BMT Copper or Aluminium –0.7mm
Corrugated sheet widths are designed to include a 1.5 rib overlap for weather-tightness.
Zinc for Superior Protection & Superior Flexibility
The standard corrugated or standing seam style of rib profile is not just about producing that iconic linear look.
Those channels and ribs are designed to add additional waterproofing protection to your roof.
They work by preventing windblown rain drifting across the roof and under seams and flashings.
With rib heights ranging from 25mm to 45mm, the standing seam style profiles are particularly useful on low pitch or skillion type roofs.
They can be used in angled, curved, domed, or conical applications and this versatility means that they can be adapted to any roof configuration and provide almost limitless opportunities for stunning architectural design.
Zinc corrugated and standing seam sheets contrast beautifully with timber panelling, stone work, brick, glass or any other cladding material.

What Makes Zinc Roof Sheets So Tough?
The process of galvanising iron or steel to form a protective layer has been around since 1840 and it has proven itself to be one of the toughest roofing products available.
The galvanic action of zinc will continue to protect your steel roof with its self-healing process in the event of minor damage and scratches.
What Materials Are Incompatible With Zinc?
Zinc protects the steel beneath thanks to the chemical reactions that take place when water, oxygen and metal come into contact with each other.
If incompatible materials come into contact with your roof or even if water drains from an incompatible material on to your zinc roof, catalytic conversion can speed corrosion.
You also need to be aware that non metallic substances may also cause incompatibility issues with zinc including treated timber and any timber with a pH of less than 5.
Likewise, avoid contact (including water runoff) between zinc coated steel and mortar and concrete.
The reality is that all roofing materials will have compatibility issues with certain materials so it really pays to get solid expert advice in the planning and design stage.
VM Zinc sheets are compatible with galvanised steel, stainless steel, aluminium, and lead but not with un-galvanised steel or copper.
Zinc: Perfect For Marine Environments?
The superior anti-corrosion properties of zinc make it the roofing material of choice for even severe marine environments.
Bluescope Steel is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of corrugated iron roofing products.
Bluescope Steel does extensive real world testing on their products to ensure optimal performance under the toughest conditions.
Bluescope Steel has tested more than 2000 panels in Q-Fog cyclic testing and salt spray testing in laboratories.
Bluescope Steel has tested an additional 3000 panels in 22 different exposure sites in Australia and across the world. Many of these sites are less than 100 metres from breaking suf.
Other testing sites have included 50 building sites and five purpose built test structures.
